Montesano (pop. 3,420)
Montesano is the county seat of Grays Harbor County. The city was founded at the
confluence of the Wynoochee and Chehalis Rivers and is home to the nation’s first
tree farm, established in 1941. The dome ceilings and murals of its majestic
courthouse have been recently restored making the courthouse a favorite attraction
for visitors. The city has an attractive inventory of quality new and older homes and
is convenient to the Satsop Development Park.
Montesano hosts the Festival of People each summer and the Festival of Lights in
December. On the city’s north side is Lake Sylvia, which offers hiking trails, fishing
and boating opportunities. South of town on the Chehalis River is Friend's Landing, a
popular walking and fishing area that provides handicap access to fishing and
boating.
